SSE has won a highly prestigious Innovation Award for its Greenwatt Way zero carbon home project, at this year’s Combined Heat and Power Association (CHPA) Awards 2010.
100 OUT OF AREA NETWORKS NOW SECURED
The SSE Utility Solutions team is celebrating after winning a £4.5 million contract with Nissan Motor Manufacturing to develop their 100th out-of area network serving a new electric car battery factory at the Japanese company’s Sunderland plant. Nissan is investing more than £200 million in the factory, which will be based at the same plant where its new electric car, the Nissan Leaf, will be developed.
SSE UNVEILS 1ST ECO HOME DEVELOPMENT
SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy) is to become the first utility in the UK to build and monitor its own development of zero carbon homes to better understand what customers will need as the UK moves to reduce carbon emissions by almost 20% between 2008 and 2020.

The Primary source of power in the Energy Centre comes from the 2.6MW CHP Gas Turbine Engine. In addition to this, there is also a waste heat boiler (capable of producing 7 tonnes of steam per hour) and three dual fuel boilers (11.4 tonnes of steam per hour each).
SSE Utility Solutions is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair service to the Energy Centre until 2018. SSE also provides detailed billing and management statistics on the energy usage of the Centre.
COMPLETE MULTI-UTILITY SOLUTION FOR PROLOGIS INDUSTRIAL PARK - COVENTRY
This is a multi-utility project where SSE Utility Solutions installing gas, telecoms and water in addition to the electricity infrastructure. 11kV/6.6kV connection into an East Midlands Electricity primary substation. Work includes the provision of main 11kV switchboard at the primary substation and development of 11/6.6kV and LV infrastructure.
ROYAL DOCKS - LONDON
66kV connection into London Power Networks' distribution network. Work included the provision of a 66/11kV substation, 66kV cabling and 11kV/LV infrastructure throughout the docks. Major customers include ExCel, University of East London and IVAX Pharmaceuticals
THE BULL RING SHOPPING CENTRE REVAMP
11kV connection into GPU Power Distribution's (MEB) network including the installation of 11kV/LV infrastructure throughout the commercial shopping centre development in Birmingham.
SSE WATER’S FIRST PROJECT AT OLD SARUM
This is an on going multi utility project in Salisbutry where SSE Utility Solutions are installing gas and water, in addition to the electricity infrastructure, to circa 900 plots. The electric includes all on site substations, distribution HV and LV mains, services and extensive off site works including upgrading a Primary Substation.

Old Sarum also saw SSE Water as the first new water company appointment in England and Wales. Under the Inset License SSE Water will own and operate both the water and foul networks throughout the development.
